Renesas Electronics is committed to meeting the ISO/SAE 21434 International standard for Road Vehicle Network Safety Engineering with its automotive MCU and SoC solutions, effective January 2022. As part of the new UN R155 regulation of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the company will continue to work on the implementation of a robust automotive Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS).

Starting In January 2022, all of the company's future automotive MCUS and soCs will follow the ISO/SAE 21434 standard in turn. This includes the company's 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RH850 MCUS, as well as the R-Car SoC family. This commitment reaffirms to oems and Tier 1 suppliers that the company will continue to meet its CSMS obligations.

From July 2022, for new models, automotive Oems are expected to be equipped with automotive CIMS to ensure strict cyber security processes are implemented to obtain vehicle approvals. With the company's commitment to ISO/SAE 21434, Oems and tier 1 suppliers can have confidence in adopting its solution. Both ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE UN R155 are required to implement cybersecurity throughout the automotive supply chain

Renesas has now adopted ISO/SAE 21434, an international standard that outlines safety requirements for the entire life cycle of an automobile. We will leverage and optimize existing development processes through security analysis, implementation and assessment to establish a requirements-defined security process. "This enables us to provide products and solutions with appropriate risk mitigation measures based on risk assessments." Renesas' goal is to be a trusted partner to customers around the world to address Case's growing automotive security threats. "
