Samsung will set up a thousand-person self-developed chip team, with the goal of surpassing Apple's chips

Samsung will set up a self-developed chip team of about 1,000 people in July to develop Exynos chips dedicated to the Galaxy S series, with the goal of commercializing the chipset by 2025. Samsung aims to surpass Apple Silicon.

The report further claims that the in-house processors for Galaxy phones will not be available for next year and 2024. In other words, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series seem to be only available with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, and the company is preparing to launch its own processors in 2025.

The report quoted a Samsung official saying: "This is a bold and risky decision made by top management with a long-term view."

This is indeed a risky move, as it means that Samsung will be unable to use some models of Exynos SoCs in the event of chip shortages or suboptimal Snapdragon performance.

Exynos flagship processors made their way into phones from Chinese brand Meizu a few years ago, while Vivo has adopted the mid-to-high-end Exynos 1080 in recent years. But at the moment we haven't seen the latest flagship Exynos chipsets in non-Samsung devices, and Samsung is the only Exynos flagship SoC user.

Also, this isn't the first time Samsung has ditched its own Exynos chips in favor of Qualcomm's Snapdragon family of chips, the last time it also caused some backlash in its home country. Whether Samsung can truly succeed in this daring attempt remains to be seen. So far, the data shows that the Exynos chip cannot surpass Qualcomm, so after two years of hard work, can it surpass Apple? We will wait and see.

In addition, according to a spokesman for Samsung's semiconductor division, "While we continue to work with customers to develop competitive mobile processors, no concrete decisions have been made."
