The L6983i 10W isolated step-down (iso-buck) converter is a compact, energy efficient, and flexible package that protects power conversion and gate drives for IGBT, SiC, and GaN transistors. Low static current, 3.5V-38V wide input voltage and other advantages.

The L6983i is packaged in a 3mm x 3mm QFN16 package for applications requiring isolated DC-DC converters. The isolated step-down topology requires fewer external components than traditional isolated flyback converters and eliminates the need for optical couplers, thus saving bill of Materials costs and PCB area.

Other advantages of the L6983i include 2µA shutdown current, integrated soft start time adjustable, internal loop compensation, power normal indication, and protection features such as overcurrent protection and hot shutdown. The spread spectrum optional feature improves EMC electromagnetic compatibility.

The L6983i has A pull/fill current of up to 4.5A primary, a switching frequency adjustable from 200kHz to 1MHz, and the option to synchronize with an external clock. The new products are used to power IGBTs, silicon carbide (SiC) or gallium nitride (GaN) power transistor isolated gate drivers for industrial automation, low-power electric drive systems, charging piles and isolated safety devices.
