Renesas Electronics, a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, announced the release of a new Resolver 4.0 reference design catalog for innovative inductive position sensors in the automotive and industrial motor fields. With this catalog, engineers now have 80 instant design resources based on IPS2 motor commutation sensors, each reference design for a unique motor shaft or pole pair configuration. These reference solutions come with complete design files, test reports, tools and guidelines to help engineers reduce design learning time and accelerate the design-to-production process.

The Resolver 4.0 catalog offers turnkey solutions that can be implemented in a wide range of applications including automotive systems, robotics, servo motors, home automation and medical. Reference designs include complete schematics, PCB designs, and Gerber files, enabling engineers to start building operational sensing solutions in no time. Renesas also accompanies these reference designs with documentation such as software stacks, full tool support, test reports, bill of materials, and more. In particular, Renesas' Inductive Coil Optimization Tool (ICOT) enables the design of optimized sensing elements based on experiments and performance simulations of air gap changes, including accuracy and error analysis in the Resolver 4.0 catalog. In addition, users can visit the Renesas website to watch IPS webinars on ideal design practices.

"One of the biggest challenges faced by designers of inductive position sensors is variables such as size, design of the sensing element, axis Arrangement and number of pole pairs. Our PCB designs in the Resolver 4.0 catalog provide key elements for each solution and are fully optimized and tested to meet the different needs of these motor control systems. Developers can now choose from From over 80 turnkey designs, choose a custom work solution for their application.”

Thanks to Renesas' proprietary inductive position sensor technology, these IPS sensors weigh significantly less than traditional magnet-based solutions and support high rotational speeds—up to 600 krpm for the IPS2550 and 250 krpm for the IPS2200 (both electrical)— To support high-speed motor commutation for passenger cars or motor control for industrial equipment. In addition, IPS sensors are completely immune to stray fields, are less sensitive to noise and vibration, have superior efficiency and accuracy, and are more reliable than magnet solutions.
