Littelfuse has expanded its popular LV UltraMOV varistor family to provide solutions for applications with higher DC voltage and surge requirements.
This series of products was launched on the market in 2013 and initially provided continuous rated voltages from 14VDC to 56VDC, with surge current ratings up to 8kA (8 / 20μs pulses). The extension line adds higher continuous voltage ratings from 65VDC to 125VDC and enhances surge current ratings up to 10kA (8 / 20μs pulse). By reducing their size by more than 40% compared to competing solutions, it combines these higher ratings with the smallest footprint on the market. The series is available in disc diameters of 5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 14mm and 20mm. The extended LV UltraMOV varistor series provides an ideal circuit protection solution for a wider range of DC voltage applications than the original line.
Extended voltage ratings meet the voltage requirements of all telecommunications applications, while enhanced inrush current ratings ensure stronger surge protection. The company said applications include telecommunications power systems, surge protection equipment, wireless base stations, automation controls, audio and video equipment, security systems and fire alarm systems.
"The enhanced LV UltraMOV varistor series provides an ideal circuit protection solution for DC voltage applications," said Johnny Chang, product manager of the LV UltraMOV series varistor product line. "The maximum peak inrush current can reach 10kA to prevent Damage caused by high peak surge currents caused by indirect lightning strike interference, system switching and abnormal surges. "
